Exempt Yourself from the Empty Home & Speculation and vacancy Tax
A homeowner with a property that stays unoccupied for more than six months each year will pay the Empty Homes Tax and Speculation and Vacancy Tax
Homes that are deemed vacant will be charged a tax of 1% of the property’s assessed taxable value. The Empty Homes Tax is imposed under the Vacancy Tax By-law No. 11674
Homeowners who neither live in their home as their principal residence nor rent out their property for at least three months of the year will pay Speculation and Vacancy Tax, up to 2% the assessed value of your residential property. The speculation and vacancy tax has received Royal assent in the Legislature.
